Life At

Norton sub Hamdon Church of England V.C. Primary School

The new school  building was completed in 1997 and its catchment area includes the villages of Norton-sub-Hamdon and Chiselborough.

Since 2010 Norton has been federated with West Chinnock Primary and the two schools share a Headteacher and a governing body.

The pupils at Norton come from a wide range of social backgrounds, which is a very positive feature of our intake. Parental expectations of the school are high, as is the level of support given by the parents. We have a dynamic P.T.A., and their social functions and fund-raising events enhance the education of the pupils in many ways. Pupils take part in a great variety of sporting activities, and enjoy considerable success in inter-school tournaments and competitions.  As a voluntary controlled church school, a Christian based ethos is at the heart of all that we do, and is reflected in the school's aims.   We enjoy close links with the parish church, and the Rector takes an active role in the school's life.

The school has an annual intake of 17, with four mixed age classes.   Year 1 pupils are split mainly on age basis, with the younger half remaining in Class 1 for a second year, and the older half transferring to Class 2 to join Year 2 pupils.

We currently have 122 pupils on roll, with virtually equal numbers of boys and girls.
